Current Music: Penny Checking Me Out
“Come on, Tina, we have to get these clothes and then head back to The Phoenix House to help Aunt Penny with the babies.” I try to snag Tina’s hand but she dances away from me down the street in Diagon Alley, giggling. “Sweetie, come on! Don’t you want to see Uncle Fred and Uncle George?”
That stopped her. “Unkie Fed and Unkie George?” I watch as her eyes turn mischievous and she comes back to dutifully hold my hand as I pull her into Madam Malkins for some maternity clothes. My pants are finally getting too tight.
“Ah you poor dear,” Madam Malkin croons as I explain what I need. “I have just the thing for you, I promise!”
“I really need jeans,” I mutter, remembering the things that Mum wore when she was pregnant.
Smiling sweetly, she nods. “I have just the thing.
Thankfully, in less than half an hour, I have a new wardrobe and I am even wearing maternity jeans. I had been walking around with my zipper undone for nearly a week and it was getting on my nerves. “Thank you!” I call as I haul my packages and my wiggling daughter out of the store. “Okay, time to go see your uncles!”
“Yay!” Tina says as she squirms out of my arms and runs down the street towards their shop.
“Wait Tina!” I yell as I grab the bags and run after her. I skirt around a group of shoppers and round the corner but stumble as my heart stops in my chest.
A man has Tina by the arm as she gazes back at me, terrified. A man I know and I freeze in fear and dread… Ryan Carrows.
“Come with me,” he mutters darkly as he drags Tina by the arm towards Knockturn Alley.
My feet are momentarily rooted to the spot but I know instinctively that I can’t go with him. Relying on years of fighting instincts, I drop my packages and pull my wand. “Accio Tina!” Unprepared for my spell, my daughter flies from him with a yelp and I catch her, stumbling backwards from her weight. I don’t stop there, however. “Stupify!”
Ryan dodges the spell and shoots a stunner at me but fortunately, or unfortunately for my bum, I fall backwards into my bags of clothing with Tina in my lap and the spell sails over my head. I aim my wand at him again but have to conjure a shield to block the curse. It shimmers as it hits the shield but the shield holds.
Realizing that while I am on the ground and trying to protect my daughter, I can’t actively fight him in a battle of spells. I glance around once but don’t see anyone. How convenient. Instead I do the only thing that I can think of. I aim wildly, as though I’m off balance and send a Reductor Curse towards the stone archway that is above his head. It hits and the rock cracks a bit
“You missed,” he sneers as he lowers his shield. No one could ever claim that Ryan was a genius. I worked with him for months and he always missed the most obvious things. I just had to hope that he didn’t notice that the stones were about to come down on his head. “Now come with me quietly and I won’t kill your daughter.”
That is the last thing he said. A second later the massive arch collapses straight onto him and crushes him to the ground. I cover Tina’s eyes and let out a sigh of relief. Pointing my wand towards WWW I send a Patronus telling my brothers to get their sorry arses over here.
Within seconds Fred is picking me up as George takes Tina from me.
“Bloody hell, Ginny!” Fred shouts as his anxiety seeps out. “You’re pregnant, for Merlin’s sake! You’re supposed to leave fighting the Death Eaters to us!”
It is a testament to how badly I must have scared him that he actually lost it. Tina begins crying and I take her from George. “He had Tina,” I reply softly and comprehension fills their eyes.
“Right, well we’ll get this git to the Ministry,” George assures me.
“Although he won’t look very pretty when we get him there,” Fred promises me with no hint of humor in his voice.
I nod and hold out a hand for my packages. Fred stoops to pick them up for, and puts the handles in my hand. “I’m going to go see Penny to make sure we’re both okay.”
Then after that I have to tell Harry about this… oh that won’t be pretty.
